New York Governor Kathy Hochul is pursuing a plan to tax ZYN pouches and other nicotine products at the same 75% wholesale tax rate as cigarettes, Carl Campanile and Vaughn Golden of The New York Post reports. The move is expected to generate $18M in the fiscal year beginning April 1. A spokesperson for ZYN manufacturer Philip Morris (PM) said the new tax on pouches “raises serious concerns from both a public health and affordability standpoint.”
