McDonald’s opposes wage rules for tip-earning workers, WSJ reports

McDonald’s (MCD) has come out against wage rules allowing restaurants, bars, and other establishments to pay their tip-earning workers below the minimum wage, going so far as to withdraw from the National Restaurant Association, Heather Haddon of The Wall Street Journal reports. The company has a vested interest in the debate on tips, since sit-down chains have cut into sales at McDonald’s by advertising burgers at competitive prices. Paying tipped employees a lower wage is an advantage on labor costs, one McDonald’s, a fast-food restaurant, does not have.
