Tesla Stock (TSLA) Rallies after Musk Provides Timeline for Optimus Sales

EV maker Tesla (TSLA) could begin selling its humanoid Optimus robots to the public by the end of next year, according to CEO Elon Musk. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Musk said that Tesla is already using Optimus robots inside its factories to handle simple tasks. As a result, he believes that the robots should be capable of doing more complex work by the end of 2026. Still, Musk stressed that public sales will only start once Tesla is confident the robots meet very high standards for safety, reliability, and functionality.

Nevertheless, these remarks provide one of the clearest timelines yet for a business that Musk sees as a major part of Tesla’s future, alongside artificial intelligence and self-driving technology. In fact, although Musk has often highlighted the long-term potential of Optimus, he has previously offered only rough estimates, including a January 2025 comment that suggested limited deliveries to other companies could begin in the second half of 2026.

It is worth noting that Tesla’s shifting focus to new technologies comes at a time when its core car business has been under pressure. This is due to an aging product lineup and the loss of U.S. EV incentives, which have contributed to two straight years of declining vehicle deliveries. At the same time, Musk recently warned that early production of both Optimus and Tesla’s upcoming Cybercab will be “agonizingly slow.”
