U.S. stock futures were slightly down early Wednesday morning as investors kept a close watch on new updates related to President Donald Trump’s tariff plans. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 (SPX) were down 0.17%, 0.13%, and 0.14%, respectively, at 3:08 a.m. EST, July 9.

Trump confirmed that there would be no changes or delays to the set of tariffs he announced on countries including Japan and South Korea. The new rates, ranging from 25% to 40%, are scheduled to take effect on August 1.
In addition, he announced a 50% levy on copper imports. He further threatened to impose tariffs of up to 200% on pharmaceutical imports into the U.S.
During Tuesday’s regular trading session, the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones were down 0.07% and 0.4%, respectively, while the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite managed a modest gain of 0.03%.
In after-hours trading, AES Corp. (AES) jumped over 12% after reports said the company is exploring a possible sale. Meanwhile, Mobileye (MBLY) stock dipped 1.3% after it announced a secondary offering of 45 million shares.
Looking ahead, traders will watch for tariff updates today. In addition, they will watch for the release of the Federal Open Market Committee’s (FOMC) minutes, which could provide further insights into the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy stance.
Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was down, floating near 4.4%. Simultaneously, WTI crude oil futures were trending lower, hovering near $68.14 per barrel as of the last check. At the same time, the Gold Spot U.S. Dollar Price decreased to nearly $3,287 per ounce on Wednesday.
Asia-Pacific Markets Traded Mixed Today
Asia-Pacific indices were mixed on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed there would be no extension to the tariffs scheduled to begin on August 1.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was down 1.12%. Also, Japan’s Nikkei and Topix indices gained 0.19% and 0.30%, respectively. At the same time, China’s Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Component indices also closed higher by 0.13% and 0.02%, respectively.
