U.S. stock futures were lower early Friday, after President Donald Trump announced 35% tariffs on Canadian goods, set to take effect August 1. Futures on the Nasdaq 100 (NDX), the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), and the S&P 500 (SPX) were down 0.44%, 0.47%, and 0.45%, respectively, at 4:04 a.m. EST, July 11.

In Thursday’s regular session, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq closed at record highs, up 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively. Also, the Dow Jones rose 0.4%. These gains came despite ongoing concerns over global trade.
Investors largely shrugged off the latest tariff headlines, including President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 50% levy on imported copper and a separate 50% tariff on Brazil, both unveiled late Wednesday.
The broader rally kicked off a day earlier, after Nvidia (NVDA) briefly touched a $4 trillion market cap—fueling strong gains across the tech sector.
In after-hours action, Levi Strauss (LEVI) surged more than 6% after reporting strong Q2 earnings and raising its full-year outlook. Bitdeer Technologies (BTDR) also climbed over 3%, helped by Bitcoin’s surge above $115,000.
Heading into Friday, the major averages are on track to finish the week little changed. The Dow is hovering just below flat, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are each up less than 1% for the week.
Looking ahead, investors await the Treasury Department’s monthly treasury statement, scheduled for release at 2 p.m. EDT on Friday.
Meanwhile, the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was up, floating near 4.37%. However, WTI crude oil futures were trending higher, hovering near $67 per barrel as of the last check. At the same time, the Gold Spot U.S. Dollar Price increased to nearly $3,333 per ounce on Friday.
Elsewhere, European stocks opened lower as investors awaited a potential EU tariff notice from the White House.
Asia-Pacific Markets Traded Mixed Today
Asia-Pacific indices were mixed on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced 35% tariffs on Canadian goods.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index was up 0.95%. Also, China’s Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Component indices closed higher by 0.01% and 0.61%, respectively. Meanwhile, Japan’s Nikkei index declined 0.19%, but the Topix index gained 0.39%.
