Shares of Steven Madden (SHOO) are rallying at the time of writing after Williams Trading upgraded the shoemaker due to improving footwear trends and new attention from the brand’s founder. Five-star analyst Sam Poser said that demand is picking up, especially in women’s dress shoes and western boots. In addition, he highlighted new products, such as the kitten heel dress shoe, which offers good value compared to more expensive luxury brands.

Founder Steve Madden also helped generate interest with positive comments during a May 21 podcast appearance on The Cutting Room Floor, which got over 24 million views. As a result, Poser believes that the combination of new products and the buzz from the podcast will lead to strong demand from major retail partners, and raised his rating from Hold to Buy with a $31 price target.
However, like the rest of the footwear industry, Steven Madden still faces some short-term uncertainty due to changing U.S. trade policy. Indeed, CEO Ed Rosenfeld admitted that new tariffs on imports are a concern, which has led the company to withdraw its guidance for Fiscal Year 2025. Nevertheless, the company is taking steps to limit the impact by raising prices and shifting production away from China. In fact, the share of products made in China is expected to drop to the mid-teens for the fall 2025 collection and to mid-single digits by spring 2026.
