Xiaomi is preparing to launch an updated version of its SU7 electric sedan in April, with revised motor configurations, new battery sourcing from CATL and BYD, and a higher starting price that brings it closer to Tesla’s Model 3 pricing. Regulatory filings in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology confirm that the vehicle’s exterior dimensions and wheelbase remain unchanged, while curb weight varies by configuration and top speed is rated at 265 km/h. The model will again be offered in single-motor and dual-motor variants, with outputs of 235 kW for the single-motor and a combined 508 kW for the dual-motor setup.
For investors, the update indicates Xiaomi’s rapid iteration cycle and continued commitment to scaling its EV operations just a year after initial SU7 deliveries. The adoption of both CATL and BYD as battery suppliers could enhance supply chain resilience and cost management, while the move to higher pricing suggests an effort to improve unit economics and position the SU7 more clearly in the mid- to high-end EV segment. By closing the price gap with Tesla’s Model 3 and maintaining competitive performance specifications, Xiaomi is signaling an intent to compete more directly in China’s crowded performance EV market. If demand holds at higher price points, this strategy could support margin expansion and strengthen Xiaomi’s positioning as a serious EV contender, though it also raises execution risk in a highly competitive environment characterized by frequent price cuts and intense technological competition.
