MoonPay has signed a landmark, three-year, category-exclusive title partnership with X Games to launch the MoonPay X Games League (XGL), positioning the crypto payments firm at the center of a newly professionalized, year-round global action sports league. The deal gives MoonPay exclusive rights across finance, banking, and crypto for the league and replaces X Games’ legacy standalone events with a team-based, season-long competition structure covering winter and summer disciplines in skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, and freeskiing. In addition to branding and rights, MoonPay will introduce a pass-through sponsorship model that allows its existing enterprise and ecosystem partners to activate within the league framework through integrated fan experiences, effectively using XGL as a global platform to extend crypto and digital asset engagement to mainstream sports audiences. The partnership coincides with X Games Aspen 2026 being designated the final standalone X Games event, underscoring the scale of the strategic shift and giving MoonPay first-mover position as the foundational financial and technology partner of the new property.
For MoonPay, this agreement is both a brand and distribution play: the company will serve as the connective infrastructure linking traditional money and crypto across fan payments, digital experiences, and potential future applications such as tokenized access, rewards, or commerce within the league ecosystem. CEO and Founder Ivan Soto-Wright framed the move as a long-term bet on X Games’ transition into a fully fledged league, highlighting that the MoonPay X Games League is designed to be athlete-first, with salaries, benefits, and team ownership opportunities that create more stable, narrative-driven competition and deeper fan engagement across a full season. With more than 30 million customers across 180 countries, over 500 enterprise clients, and a substantial regulatory footprint including a New York BitLicense, a New York Limited Purpose Trust Charter, U.S. money transmitter licenses, and MiCA authorization in the EU, MoonPay is positioned to leverage XGL as a global showcase for its ramps, trading, commerce, and stablecoin infrastructure. Executives should view this as a strategic brand-alignment and ecosystem expansion move, using a high-visibility, culturally influential sports league to normalize crypto-powered financial experiences and to create new monetization channels and partnership opportunities around a permanent, global action sports property.
