Discord has introduced significant updates to its Family Center, enhancing parental oversight of teen activity on the platform. These updates provide guardians with detailed insights into their teens’ interactions, including purchase history, time spent on the platform, and primary contacts over the past week. This initiative aims to help parents monitor and manage their teens’ engagement with Discord, ensuring a balanced use of time and financial resources.
The Family Center, initially launched in 2023, now includes features that allow guardians to view total purchases made by teens, including items from Discord’s Shop and Nitro subscriptions. Additionally, parents can track the time their teens spend on voice and video calls, as well as identify the top five users and servers their teens interact with. New parental controls have been added, enabling guardians to manage who can direct message their teen and whether sensitive content should be filtered. Furthermore, data privacy controls have been enhanced, allowing guardians to decide how Discord uses their teen’s data, including the option to disable personalized ads. These updates align with broader industry trends, as companies like Meta and YouTube also enhance teen safety features. Discord’s approach emphasizes creating a safer online environment while maintaining user privacy, reflecting a strategic move to address growing concerns about teen safety on digital platforms.
