PLTR, SMCI, NFLX: The Best-Performing Stock’s During the Year’s First Half

The first half of 2025 is in the books, and the top-performing stocks year-to-date are a mix of well-known technology names and energy companies.

Leading the S&P 500 to close out the year’s first half at a record high of just under 6,200 points are familiar technology stocks such as Palantir (PLTR), which is the best performer in the benchmark index with a gain of 82%. Other top gainers this year include Super Micro Computer (SMCI), which has notched a 60% increase, and streaming giant Netflix (NFLX), which is up 50%.

Other technology-oriented stocks that are among the top 25 stocks in the S&P 500 index through the first six months of this year include Seagate Technology (STX), which has seen its share price rise 66%, ride-hailing company Uber (UBER), which is up 54%, and Micron Technology (MU), which has risen 47% on the year.

Other Strong Performers

While mega-cap technology stocks such as Meta Platforms (META) and Nvidia (NVDA) have led the stock market higher since the lows seen in April of this year, none of the so called “Magnificent 7” stocks is among the top gainers in the S&P 500 year-to-date. The best-performer of that group is META stock, which has seen its share price increase 26%.

Other stocks among the S&P 500’s top 10 performers through the year’s first half include a mix of energy and industrial names. These include electricity providers such as NRG Energy (NRG), which has grown 79%, and GE Vernova (GEV), which is up 60%. Industrial stocks such as Howmet Aerospace (HWM), up 70%, and gold miner Newmont (NEM), up 55%, are also among the best performers in the S&P 500.

Is PLTR Stock a Buy?

The stock of Palantir Technologies has a consensus Hold rating among 17 Wall Street analysts. That rating is based on three Buy, 10 Hold, and four Sell recommendations issued in the last three months. The average PLTR price target of $104.27 implies 24.21% downside from current levels.
