Microsoft-backed (MSFT) AI firm OpenAI said on Friday that its lower-priced ChatGPT Go subscription is now available worldwide. The plan, which was first launched in August 2025, is now offered in more than 170 countries after seeing strong interest. According to OpenAI, users have been regularly using Go for everyday tasks like writing, learning, creating images, and solving problems. This traction ultimately convinced the company to roll the plan out globally. At $8 per month in the U.S., ChatGPT Go sits well below the $20 ChatGPT Plus and $200 ChatGPT Pro tiers.

Despite the lower price, the plan includes access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-5.2 Instant model, along with ten times more messages, uploads, and image creations than the free version. In addition, Go users get a longer memory and context window, thereby making the service more useful for extended conversations. As a result, OpenAI now describes ChatGPT Go as its fastest-growing and most affordable subscription offering. At the same time, OpenAI confirmed that it will begin testing advertising in the free and ChatGPT Go versions in the U.S. soon, while higher-paid tiers will remain ad-free.
Interestingly, the company said that ads could become more interactive by allowing users to ask questions directly within conversations rather than by clicking static links. This advertising move comes as OpenAI ramps up monetization plans, reportedly with help from executives who previously worked at Meta (META). Importantly, additional revenue streams could support OpenAI’s plans for another massive funding round, as CEO Sam Altman has said the company is already generating well over $13 billion in annual revenue and could reach $100 billion by 2027.
