Netflix’s Redesign Crimps YouTube’s Style

Netflix’s Redesign Crimps YouTube’s Style

Say goodbye to the old Netflix (NFLX) design. The video streaming platform is updating its look on TV for the first time in more than 10 years. This redesign will focus on offering a more tailored experience for users, providing them with real-time recommendations based on their searches and watch history.

The redesign will start to roll out on May 19, with TVs and streaming devices updated over time. This marks the first change to the format since its last redesign in 2013. Users will know if their devices support the new update if they see a welcome message that will help them navigate the new interface.

The Netflix redesign brings with it new shortcuts, allowing subscribers to quickly access Search, Shows, Movies, Games, and My Netflix. That last option is a hub of content the user may be interested in. It includes shows and content from the Continue Watching, My List, and Remind Me features.

Netflix Will Look a Lot Like YouTube

Netflix has clearly taken inspiration from other video service platforms with its updated user interface. Many of its new features and visual elements are similar to those offered by Alphabet’s (GOOGL) YouTube.

YouTube has slowly been encroaching on Netflix’s space, offering subscription services to watch movies and shows on its platform. It also has a selection of shows and films that are free to watch, supported by ads. With YouTube stealing some of Netflix’s thunder, it makes sense that the streaming service would borrow some of its ideas.

NFLX vs. GOOGL: Which Stock Do Analysts Prefer?

Turning to Wall Street, investors might wonder whether Netflix or Alphabet is the better investment. Both stocks have consensus Strong Buy ratings, but GOOGL’s upside potential is higher at 32.73%, compared to NFLX’s minimal 0.6% possible upside.
