Tech giant Microsoft (MSFT) is trying to make its Copilot AI chatbot more appealing to younger users by partnering with some of the biggest social media influencers in the U.S. While Microsoft says Copilot now has 150 million monthly users, it still lags behind OpenAI’s (PC:OPAIQ) ChatGPT, which has 800 million weekly users, and Google’s (GOOGL) Gemini, which has around 650 million monthly users. Interestingly, Microsoft dominates the business market thanks to its software and cloud services, but it’s still struggling to connect with everyday consumers, especially those under 30.

To help change that, Microsoft has teamed up with influencers like Alix Earle, who has over 12 million followers across TikTok and Instagram. In one viral clip, she asked Copilot for tips on looking younger after fans teased her about her age, a video that racked up more than 15 million views. Twin influencers Brigette and Danielle Pheloung also joined the campaign by using Copilot to design ’70s and ’80s-inspired outfits for New York Fashion Week, which their audience loved.
Unsurprisingly, Microsoft’s consumer marketing chief, Yusuf Mehdi, said that the influencer campaign is already encouraging viewers to try Copilot and called it more effective than traditional advertising. More specifically, these videos have generated hundreds of millions of views so far. Nevertheless, experts remain cautious about whether this strategy will close the gap with ChatGPT. Still, analysts say Microsoft’s influencer partnerships are helping make Copilot seem more relatable and approachable.
