Instagram (META) Is Developing a New Feature Called “Picks”

Instagram is developing a new feature called “Picks” to help users discover shared interests with friends. Indeed, a spokesperson for the Meta-owned (META) social media platform confirmed to TechCrunch that Picks is currently just an internal prototype and isn’t available for public testing. Interestingly, the concept was first uncovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for spotting unreleased features that are still in development. Screenshots he shared suggest that users will be able to choose their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music (known as their “Picks”), which Instagram will then compare to friends’ lists to highlight common choices.

Although Instagram hasn’t provided full details, Picks appears to be designed as a more personal way to connect users. In fact, in a January post, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, explained that the company plans to help people engage more meaningfully in 2025 by doubling down on messaging, making content consumption more interactive, and experimenting with new ways to bring friends together.

However, not everyone seems to be excited about this addition. Some users already feel that Instagram is overloaded with features and point to the recent backlash over Instagram Map, which many said they didn’t want. As with other features that are still in development, it remains unclear when, or if, Instagram will launch Picks publicly. For now, it’s just another experiment to keep people engaged and connected on the platform.
