GTA 6 Release Date Delayed: Should Investors Buy Take-Two Stock (TTWO) on the Dip?

GTA 6 Release Date Delayed: Should Investors Buy Take-Two Stock (TTWO) on the Dip?

Take-Two (TTWO) developer Rockstar Games has delayed the release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 26, 2026. Previously, the company had planned to launch the latest entry in the GTA series later this year.

Fans on social media were upset about the announcement as Rockstar Games has remained quiet about GTA 6’s development. The company showed off a trailer for the game in December 2023, and has mostly remained radio silent since then.

Rockstar Game’s official comment on the delay noted it’s “very sorry” that the GTA 6 release date is later than expected. The game developer also said it needs extra time so that Grand Theft Auto 6 can exceed the expectations of fans.

Can Rockstar Maintain Its GTA 6 Hype?

The long development cycle for GTA 6 and a lack of communication between Rockstar Games and its fans could come back to bite it. Many have called for a new trailer, or a similar update from the company leading up to the game’s release. With news of its delay, fans could grow more frustrated with the developer.

Even so, this is unlikely to negatively impact sales of Grand Theft Auto 6. The series has a massive fanbase with Grand Theft Auto 5 having sold more than 210 million units, making it the second-best selling video game behind Microsoft’s (MSFT) Minecraft. If even half of GTA V buyers purchase GTA 6, it would still be the third-best selling video game.

TTWO stock was rattled by the GTA 6 release date delay today. That sent shares 7.34% lower this morning, but the stock remains up 18.37% year-to-date. Investors might use today’s dip as an entry point into TTWO shares.

Is TTWO Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus rating for Take-Two is Strong Buy, based on 15 Buy and one Hold ratings over the last three months. With that comes an average price target of $228.06, representing a potential 4.4% upside for TTWO stock.
