Policymakers are set to meet again before DHS funding runs dry on February 13, with Democrats demanding reform that includes a requirement for federal agents to be unmasked when on duty. The demands come after the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti at the hands of a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis.
Government Funding Package Heads to Trump’s Desk
President Trump still needs to give his stamp of approval before the package can be passed into law, although he has already voiced his support for the measure. That signals that the shutdown will likely end today on its fourth day.
Still, the political battle over DHS policy is far from over. On Monday, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that agents in Minneapolis will be provided with body cameras, while agents in other regions will be required to wear them once funding is available.
