The Bitwise Bitcoin Strategy Optimum Roll ETF, BITC, recorded a sizable single-day outflow of $964,575 on January 16, 2026, as investors pulled cash from the futures-based Bitcoin vehicle. The redemption hit a fund with approximately $14.52 million in assets under management (AUM), meaning about 6.6% of its capital base shifted out in just one session.

The scale of the move underscores how quickly sentiment can turn in niche crypto-linked ETFs, particularly those tied to futures rather than directly holding the underlying asset. With more than one-twentieth of the fund’s capital exiting in a day, the flow suggests a decisive bout of risk reduction among investors who had been using BITC to gain structured exposure to Bitcoin price action.

The pressure on flows mirrors the backdrop in the underlying market. The related asset, BTC-USD, is currently trading around $89,911.24, down roughly 17% over the past three months. Technically, the short-term picture remains fragile, with a 1-day signal flashing Strong Sell, reinforcing the case for caution among momentum- and trend-following traders.

For ETF investors, the combination of a declining Bitcoin price, negative momentum, and a concentrated outflow raises questions about whether more redemptions could follow if the crypto market fails to stabilize or if volatility spikes again. Futures-based products like BITC can be particularly sensitive to changes in sentiment, as their performance also reflects rolling costs and positioning in derivatives markets on top of spot price moves.
