Provident Bancorp, Inc. is a Massachusetts-based holding company for BankProv, a full-service commercial bank offering traditional and innovative banking services across the Seacoast Region of Northeastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Founded in 1828, it is the 10th oldest bank in the United States.

Provident Bancorp, Inc. has reported a net income of $2.8 million for the quarter ending June 30, 2025, marking a significant improvement from the previous quarter and a reversal from a net loss in the same quarter last year. The company attributes this positive outcome to strategic transactions including a proposed merger with Needham Bank and a sale/leaseback of its main office building.

Key financial highlights for the quarter include a 5.1% increase in net interest and dividend income to $13.5 million, and a notable improvement in the company’s return on average assets and equity. The interest rate spread and net interest margin also saw positive growth, reflecting effective cost management and asset yield maintenance. Additionally, the company recognized a credit loss benefit, further supporting its financial performance.

The quarter also saw an increase in noninterest income, largely driven by a gain from the sale/leaseback transaction. However, noninterest expenses rose due to merger-related costs and other contingencies. Despite these expenses, the company maintained a well-capitalized status with a stable equity position.

Looking ahead, Provident Bancorp, Inc. remains focused on completing its merger with Needham Bank and optimizing its financial strategies to enhance shareholder value. The management is optimistic about the opportunities these strategic moves will create, aiming for a seamless integration and continued growth in the coming quarters.
