President Trump has posted a new announcement on Truth Social, the social media platform. He wrote:

“Incompetent California “Leaders,” headed by Governor Gavin Newscum, and a traveling Mayor who likes Africa better than the USA (she chose to go there rather than stay home and fight the worst fire in California history!), are absolutely unable to get people permits to rebuild there homes. All Federal permits have been issued and received, long ago!!! President DJT”

How Will Trump’s Statement Affect the Stock Market?

This latest post has the potential to affect the stock market. That’s because Trump’s criticism of California’s leadership and rebuilding delays after major wildfires could initially weigh on sentiment toward California-exposed utilities like Pacific Gas & Electric and real estate-related instruments (VNQ, IYR, XLRE) due to perceived regulatory and political risk. Conversely, talk of reconstruction and rebuilding can be seen as a long-term positive for homebuilders and housing-related retailers such as D.R. Horton and Home Depot, as well as industrials funds (VIS, XLI, IYJ) that might benefit from infrastructure and construction activity if permitting improves. Financial-sector ETFs (XLF, KRE, VFH) could be modestly affected via expectations for mortgage lending and construction financing demand in California, but any impact is likely to be short-term and sentiment-driven unless policy actions follow the rhetoric.

Here are some of the stocks that might be affected:
D.R. Horton Inc ((DHI)),
Home Depot ((HD)),
Pacific Gas & Electric Co. ((PCG)),
Vanguard Industrials ETF ((VIS)),
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund ((XLF)),
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund ((XLI)),
SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF ((KRE)),
Vanguard Financials ETF ((VFH)),
Vanguard Real Estate ETF ((VNQ)),
iShares U.S. Industrials ETF ((IYJ)),
iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF ((IYR)),
Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund ((XLRE)).
