Amazon (AMZN) Stock Gains on New $35 Billion Commitment to India

Amazon (AMZN) stock edged higher in premarket trading today after the company announced a new $35 billion plan for India, one of its biggest commitments to the country so far. Amazon said it will invest the money by 2030, more than doubling its earlier target as it looks to expand across e-commerce, cloud, logistics, and AI in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Amazon Sets Bigger Goals for Exports and Cloud

Amazon plans to help Indian sellers reach more global customers, aiming to quadruple exports from India to $80 billion by 2030. This builds on earlier plans from Amazon Web Services, which committed $12.7 billion to expand cloud data centers in the country.

Amazon said the investment will support about 1 million jobs, reflecting its long-term commitment to India.

U.S. Tech Giants Step Up Their India Plans

India has become a major focus for global tech giants. Amazon faces strong competition from Walmart (WMT)-backed Flipkart and fast-delivery apps like Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto, which have changed how consumers shop. The larger investment shows Amazon wants to strengthen its position as more spending moves online.

This also comes as other U.S. tech leaders raise their commitments. Microsoft (MSFT) recently announced a $17.5 billion plan to expand India’s AI and cloud systems, while Google (GOOGL) revealed a $15 billion investment to build its first major AI hub in the country. Together, the three companies have pledged more than $67 billion toward India’s digital and AI future.

Is Amazon Stock a Buy, Hold, or Sell?

Wall Street has a Strong Buy consensus rating on Amazon stock based on 44 Buys and one Hold. The average AMZN stock price target of $295.73 indicates 29.75% upside potential. Amazon stock has risen 4% year-to-date.
