It had been a difficult 18 months for Abercrombie & Fitch and its stock. Worries that growth was slowing at the Ohio-based clothing retailer had sent its share price spiraling downward. Between June 2024 and now, ANF stock plunged 65%, from a peak of $186 to a trough of $65 a share.
Confidence appears to have been restored after Abercrombie & Fitch reported strong financial results for this year’s third quarter and provided bullish forward guidance. However, even with today’s huge move higher, ANF stock remains down 40% in 2025 and on track for its worst year since 2016.
Abercrombie & Fitch’s Strong Print
Abercrombie & Fitch announced earnings per share of $2.36 for what was its fiscal third quarter, surpassing analysts’ consensus forecast of $2.17. Revenue totaled $1.29 billion, in line with Wall Street’s expectations, although comparable-store sales rose 3% from a year earlier.
The big news in the strong earnings print was that the Hollister brand’s comparable sales rose 15% from a year ago. Abercrombie’s management team also raised the low-end of their full-year guidance, saying they now expect net sales to rise 6% to 7% this year, up from a previous range of 5% to 7%. Earnings per share are expected to be between $10.20 and $10.50, compared with an earlier range of $10 to $10.50.
The revised guidance is in line with Wall Street’s forecasts. Abercrombie & Fitch has struggled with a pullback in consumer discretionary spending and tariff impacts. But investors appear to be betting that those issues might now be sliding into the company’s rearview mirror.
