The Philippines government has order Meta to suppress the spread of false, “panic-inducing” content on its sites, including misleading claims regarding exaggerated oil prices increases and energy supply disruptions, which it said could cause economic disorder, the Wall Street Journal’s Amanda Lee reports, citing a letter sent to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Presidential Communications Office told Meta to curb all fake news and cautioned that the continued circulation of such would breach Philippines’ law.
