PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced that it is among the winners of the UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 (CMDC6) for its TURBO-METH project, developed in partnership with HyperGen. The project will conduct a pre-deployment trial of an integrated green biomethanol production and utilization system, combining PuriFire’s hydrothermal gasification-to-methanol technology, which converts wet waste feedstocks into low-carbon biomethanol, with HyperGen’s micro gas turbines running on biomethanol for distributed power generation. The demonstration will take place at Shoreham Port and is supported by a consortium including Shoreham Port, Newcastle University, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Xpress Feeders, and Associated British Ports, with funding support from the UK Department for Transport and Innovate UK.

For investors, the CMDC6 award provides external validation of PuriFire Energy’s technology and offers non-dilutive funding and partnership leverage that could accelerate commercialisation in the maritime decarbonisation segment. Successful demonstration at a UK port could position the company as a relevant technology supplier in emerging green methanol and circular fuel value chains for shipping, a market expected to grow as regulatory and customer pressure for low-carbon shipping intensifies. Collaboration with port operators, an academic institution, and a major renewable energy test centre may also enhance PuriFire’s credibility, support future project pipelines, and open routes to recurring revenue from port-based energy systems if the model proves scalable. However, the project remains at a pre-deployment trial stage, and timelines for large-scale commercial adoption and material revenue contribution are still uncertain and contingent on technical performance, regulatory frameworks, and customer uptake in the wider maritime industry.
