PuriFire Energy Wins UK Clean Maritime Award for TURBO-METH Green Biomethanol Project

PuriFire Energy Wins UK Clean Maritime Award for TURBO-METH Green Biomethanol Project

PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced that it is among the winners of the UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 (CMDC6) for its TURBO-METH project, developed in partnership with HyperGen. The project will conduct a pre-deployment trial of an integrated, end-to-end green biomethanol production and utilisation system aimed at decarbonising maritime operations. PuriFire’s hydrothermal gasification-to-methanol technology will convert wet waste feedstocks into low-carbon biomethanol, which will then be used to fuel HyperGen’s micro gas turbines for distributed power generation. The demonstration will take place at Shoreham Port and is designed as a scalable, port-based circular energy model, supported by partners including Shoreham Port, Newcastle University, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, Xpress Feeders, and Associated British Ports, with funding support from the UK Department for Transport and Innovate UK.

For investors, this award and demonstration project highlight PuriFire Energy’s growing role in the maritime decarbonisation ecosystem and validate its waste-to-biomethanol technology through government-backed, real-world deployment. Successful demonstration at a commercial port could strengthen the company’s position in emerging green methanol and clean shipping value chains, potentially opening pathways to follow-on contracts, licensing, or joint ventures with port operators and shipping companies. Collaboration with established industry and academic partners may accelerate technical validation and regulatory acceptance, while UK government involvement reduces early-stage project risk. If the technology scales and proves cost-competitive, PuriFire could benefit from broader adoption of circular fuel solutions in ports and maritime logistics, supporting long-term revenue growth prospects and enhancing its strategic positioning in low-carbon fuels and distributed energy systems.
