PuriFire Energy Joins UK-Backed Clean Maritime Project to Advance Green Methanol Fuel

PuriFire Energy has shared an update. The company announced its participation in the UK Government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 6 (CMDC6), collaborating with Shoreham Port, Associated British Ports, Newcastle University, Xpress Feeders and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. The project aims to demonstrate that green methanol produced from wastewater and waste carbon can serve as a viable and scalable alternative fuel for the maritime sector. Key components of the initiative include development of a green methanol pilot project, third-party life-cycle analysis, feedstock testing and an assessment of scale-up deployment.

For investors, this initiative highlights PuriFire Energy’s strategic positioning in the emerging low-carbon maritime fuels market, an area likely to see increasing regulatory and commercial support despite delays in the International Maritime Organization’s net-zero framework. Participation in a government-backed demonstration program, alongside major port operators and academic and industry partners, could provide validation of PuriFire’s technology, de-risk aspects of R&D through public funding, and create pathways to future commercial contracts if the pilot proves technically and economically viable. Successful life-cycle analysis and scale-up assessments would be important milestones, potentially strengthening the company’s case for future capital raising, partnerships with ship operators and ports, and broader adoption of wastewater- and waste carbon-derived fuels in shipping. However, revenue impact will depend on subsequent commercialization, regulatory incentives, and the pace at which the maritime industry adopts alternative fuels.
