NEXUS, the Network for Entrepreneurship, Xceleration & Unified Startups, is being positioned as Maryland’s central coordination hub for incubator-led innovation, consolidating efforts across four regional centers to create a more integrated startup support infrastructure. The coalition, sourced to Nexus as initiator and coordinator, links Bethesda Green in Montgomery County, bwtech@UMBC in Baltimore County, Frederick Innovative Technology Center, Inc. in Frederick County, and the Maryland Innovation Center in Howard County to align capital access, shared services, and statewide programming.
Under the NEXUS structure, the partners plan to jointly pursue grant funding, statewide innovation initiatives, and workforce development programs that can channel more capital and resources into Maryland’s early-stage companies. Nexus is expected to drive cross-region resource sharing—such as coworking capacity, programming, speaker networks, and event platforms—while building more coordinated fundraising and investor engagement pipelines for founders, particularly in cybersecurity, biotech, sustainability, advanced technology, and health innovation. The coalition is designed to be expandable, with Nexus leaving room for additional partners and new program tracks in water technologies, food and agriculture, and climate innovation, positioning Maryland’s innovation economy for scale and offering stakeholders a clearer, more connected entry point into the state’s startup ecosystem.
