BigID Targets AI ‘Shadow Data’ With Markdown Scanning for Instruction Files

New updates have been reported about BigID.

Meet Samuel – Your Personal Investing Prophet

BigID has expanded its data security and AI governance platform to scan and classify Markdown (.md) files, positioning itself as the first DSPM provider to address sensitive data embedded in AI instruction artifacts that underpin modern coding assistants and agent frameworks. By enabling discovery, classification, risk scoring, and remediation of sensitive content in these files, BigID is directly targeting a fast-growing blind spot in enterprise security created by AI-native development and so‑called vibe coding.

The new capability covers instruction formats used for tools such as coding copilots, agent configurations, and custom system prompts, which often contain internal APIs, schemas, credentials, and proprietary logic stored in plain text and historically invisible to DLP and DSPM tools. BigID’s CEO Dimitri Sirota describes Markdown-based instruction files as a new layer of shadow data, arguing that securing them is critical as agentic AI becomes standard in software delivery, and this move strengthens BigID’s positioning as an AI-first data security platform while potentially increasing its strategic relevance to enterprises scaling AI-driven development.
