According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the carmaker is pulling back 421,078 vehicles in the country due to a software glitch that can cause brakes to apply suddenly without warning or the driver’s input.

Hyundai Makes New Recall

Specifically, a software bug in the front cameras of the affected vehicles may cause the vehicle’s automatic collision systems to engage too soon and apply the brakes. This could cause a crash, the auto safety regulator noted.

The recall impacts models of the following Hyundai vehicle brands with manufacturing dates between 2025 and 2026:

  • Santa Cruz compact pickup trucks
  • Tucson compact sport-utility vehicles
  • Tucson plug-in hybrid electric vehicles

Hyundai’s Recall Problem Keeps Piling Up

The latest recall is only one of several Hyundai has made this year. Earlier in the week, the South Korean carmaker recalled 54,337 vehicles in the U.S. — the world’s largest auto market after China — to prevent the risk of a fire outbreak from overheating of the hybrid power control unit of certain recent models of its Elantra hybrid vehicles.

Last month, Hyundai also pulled back 294,128 vehicles in the U.S. over faulty seat belt anchors that could lead to injury during a crash. The move impacted the Genesis G90 full-size luxury sedan, Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan, Hyundai Santa Fe midsize SUV, and Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid midsize SUV.

Another recent recall was also related to a seat belt issue. The automaker recalled 46,787 of its Palisade SUVs in the U.S. after finding that passengers could mistakenly damage the wiring harness inside the third-row driver-side seat belt buckle assembly when the seat belt buckle is pulled.
