Zinc of Ireland NL ( (AU:ZMI) ) has provided an update.
Zinc of Ireland NL has agreed to acquire Netherlands-based Metallon Clean Extractions BV, gaining its proprietary ARGO and VOLTA hydrometallurgical technologies for treating zinc leach residue and recycling lead-acid batteries with lower energy use, emissions and waste. The company plans to integrate ARGO with its Kildare Zinc project, explore associated critical minerals, and leverage existing cooperation agreements with major industrial partners Nyrstar and FIB S.p.A to commercialise these processes.
Alongside the technology acquisition, Zinc of Ireland is launching a 4,000-metre drilling program at Kildare, refreshing its leadership with a new chairman and CEO, and raising A$5.5 million to fund exploration and technology development. The moves collectively aim to shift the company from a pure explorer to a vertically integrated player in cleaner metal recovery and recycling, potentially enhancing project economics and aligning it with tightening environmental and regulatory trends in Europe and beyond.
