WeRide Adds Nissan Strategy Executive Ichijo Futakawa to Board as Non-Executive Director

WeRide Inc. has appointed Nissan executive Ichijo Futakawa as a non-executive director effective April 21, 2026, adding deep automotive and mobility-service expertise to its board. Futakawa, currently division general manager of corporate strategy and business development at Nissan, previously led the establishment of Nissan’s autonomous taxi business in Suzhou, China, and has held senior roles at Henkel and Toyota, bringing a blend of engineering, international project management and new-mobility experience.

Under a three-year director service agreement, Futakawa will receive no remuneration as a non-executive director, will serve until the company’s next annual general meeting and will then be subject to re-election under Hong Kong listing rules. The appointment broadens WeRide’s board with a director who has no current ties to its management or shareholders, underscoring the company’s push to strengthen governance and strategic capabilities as competition in autonomous driving intensifies.
