Hokuriku Electric Power Company ( (JP:9505) ) has issued an announcement.
Hokuriku Electric Power Company has finalized the output specifications for the new LNG-fired Unit 2 at its Toyama Shinko Thermal Power Station, setting capacity at 630,000 kW with an approximate generation-end efficiency of 64 percent using LNG fuel. The high-efficiency combined-cycle facility, to be built in Imizu City, Toyama, is scheduled to start operation in fiscal 2033, subject to ongoing support from local stakeholders.
As part of this project, the utility will decommission the aging coal-fired Unit 2 and the idle oil-fired Unit 1 at the same site, replacing them with the state-of-the-art LNG unit to both secure stable power supply and cut carbon emissions. The move underscores the company’s broader transition away from legacy fossil units toward cleaner gas-fired technology, with implications for reduced environmental impact and a more modern generation fleet in the Hokuriku region.
