Cambi ASA ( (DE:3W7) ) has shared an announcement.
Cambi ASA has secured a large contract, valued in the NOK 100–200 million range, with J. Murphy and Sons to supply two thermal hydrolysis process systems for United Utilities’ Ellesmere Port bioresources treatment centre in Cheshire. The project is part of United Utilities’ AMP8 programme to create centralised treatment hubs, modernise its bioresources network and cut methane emissions while meeting tighter regulatory demands on anaerobic digestion sites.
The new THP installation will enable Ellesmere Port to handle sludge from a wider region, with about two-thirds of its throughput coming from other sites, and is expected to lift biogas production by around 20% versus conventional digestion. United Utilities plans to upgrade most of the biogas to biomethane for grid injection, enough to heat roughly 400 homes a year, while improved dewatering will shrink biosolids volumes by about 35% and support flexible disposal routes as the wastewater works is upgraded for population growth and industrial loads, with equipment delivery slated for 2027 and operations from 2028.
